“I’ve always done it this way”- Let’s step away from this thought process.
There is a lot to be said about tradition. It contributes to a sense of comfort and belonging. A crutch to aid you in your emotional growth. It reinforces out beliefs such as freedom, strong work ethic, responsibility, and stability. But if we are to stop whatever it is that we are currently doing, and have a quick think; analyze our current processes and assumptions, and ask ourselves this: How much of what we do is just habit? How much of it can we change without losing the support of traditional values?
We do this with everything. We do it with our teachings. Our thought processes. Our work. We stick to things that feel safer. And why not? Safe is good. Safe is guaranteed. We like, “If its not broken, why fix it”? My question here, is how do we know its not broken? Because tradition claims it not to be? We go on about our daily lives because we have a small part of the brain that likes the comfort. Our innate nature is to be comfortable. I, on the other hand, want to break the status-quo. And that is where the idea of REE has come in. Waste management in the Middle East has a lot of catching up to do with the rest of the world. This is because we are stuck to our traditions. We have forgotten change is necessary to move forward. Tradition, in this case, holds us back. REE aims to shake up the status-quo in the market by providing something that is against the culture and see where the chips fall.
It is impossible to try every option, to explore every possible outcome and examine how the competitor does it, or how culture shapes it, but if we continue on the same path, if we don’t even know what we’re doing is mechanical, we will be restless enough so late that the rest of the world has left us behind. For understandable reasons, we spend a lot of time trying to avoid blunders, minimizing mistakes, sticking close to traditional way of moving forward. But if that is all we do, we let go of a chance to even attempt at something magical.
